The Lost Art of Handmade Gifts and Why Now is the Time to Bring Them Back

Do you remember how meaningful it used to be when someone made you a handmade gift? It could have been a blanket that your grandmother made you when you were a baby. It might have been a scarf that your Aunt Fern knitted you when you were in kindergarten. Regardless of the item, handmaking gifts has become a rare occurrence.

Signs

There's a new company in town, Life Expressions Décor. They specialize in handmade wooden and vinyl signs. You can either host a sign making party at your home or order from there catalog. The company was founded in September 2012 by two sisters-in-law, in Holland, MI. They quickly outgrew their garage operations and turned their business into a direct sales company that just recently grossed $1M in sales.

Life Expressions Décor (LE for short), has about 600 independent consultants around the country, making it a small but growing company that focuses highly on the quality of their handcrafted product and customer service. Consultants also lead sign making events/home parties where their guests create their own signs, choosing from over 100 different premade sayings. You can find a consultant near you on LE's website.

There is a sense that with the world moving so fast around us that things have become less precious. Some could say that in the age of simplifying and decluttering that handmade things are the reasons why we have to declutter in the first place. That might be true to a certain extent. But a handmade gift can always do something that your fast paced life can't: it can slow you down and bring you back to how you felt when you first got that gift. Sometimes, all of us can use a moment like that.
